Mining
Mining uses some of the heaviest machinery on the planet. Time is money and therefore operations at mining locations worldwide moves fast. This fast pace combined with the properties of the mined materials generates dust. Exposure to dust in mining and quarrying continues to be a major risk to the health of workers and the sites environment.
Dump trucks transfer the mined material to the primary crushers, from there grinding and further crushing is done to purify the material. Crushers are a known source of dust emissions as they open up new surface area and crushing is done under high pressure.
The dump trucks movement itself is one of the major sources of dust, as roads and mine ramps typically are unpaved and distances can be quit long. The weight and speed of machinery causes degradation, washouts, potholes and dust emissions that are not only harmful for onsite staff but most importantly unsafe.
