Dust exposure in mineral extraction

Mining

In mining, through the use of explosives and using very heavy machinery - minerals such as coal or lignite, for example - are mined and treated. Often the mined materials from the quarries create a lot of dust pollution. Exposure to this poses a great risk to humans & the environment.

Dump trucks, or large dump trucks, transport the mined material to open pit crusher plants for further crushing into smaller chunks. This transport on the quarry roads creates road dust nuisance. The crushing of the large chunks of raw material in the crushers of the open pit mine also releases a lot of dust.

In addition, the conveyor belts for transporting the various fractions of material on the mine site are an additional source of dust formation due to their drop points. Usually, open pit mines also have their own rail connection. When loading the rail cars of the outgoing trains, due to the large air displacement, a lot of dust is also generated.
