Dust drifts and that is not desirable for a variety of reasons.

Steel industry

Steelworks blast furnaces produce steel from sinter and coke in particular. The raw materials of sinter and coke are (dry) bulk materials that are usually delivered to the steel shop by ship or by train.

When moving and processing these bulk materials on the steel shop premises, for example when unloading ships or during internal transport using conveyor belts with drop points, dust is generated.

In addition, the (outdoor) storage of raw materials -in heaps or stockpiles- is very sensitive to wind dispersion. This dust spreads visibly and invisibly over the plant premises and usually far beyond. Windblown dust is undesirable for several reasons.
